Latest Updates from Our Project:

ENnies Voting, Indie Groundbreaker Nominations, & Roll 20 is here!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 18, 2019 at 09:00:07 PM

We’re nominated for ENnie and Indie Groundbreaker Awards! With less than a month to go, the nominations have been announced and we’re excited to share the good news.

ENnies

Out of the nominees, the winners are determined by number of votes. Every vote counts, so we need your help to go to the voting submission site and support Bluebeard’s Bride some more! More detailed instructions can be found below.

In 2018 Bluebeard’s Bride received an ENnie nomination for Best Production Value. It’s with great honor that we can say that are counted among those nominated this year as well.

Book of Mirrors was nominated for Best Cover Art. I had the pleasure of working with Rebecca on the cover artwork, as well as our layout artist, Miguel.

Book of Mirrors was also nominated for Best Layout and Design, again, thanks to Miguel, with whom we have had the pleasure of working for layout on many of our projects.

And the Book of Lore was nominated for Best RPG Related Product. A big thanks to Liz for her writing and collaboration on the book.

How Do I Vote?

ENnie voting can be found here!

http://www.ennie-awards.com/vote/2019

You’ll find us under: Best Cover Art, Best Layout, and Best RPG Related Product.

Once you’ve clicked on the category you want to vote for, rank our Bluebeard supplements as #1. You’re also given the opportunity to pick and 2nd and 3rd choice, so go through the list and see what other amazing products there are to vote for. After you click “vote”, it will input your opinions and take you back to the list of categories.

And please, tell your friends! The ENnies depend on fan participation, so our fate is in your hands! The winners will be announced on the evening of August 2nd at Union Station. We can hardly wait!

Indie Groundbreaker Awards

The Indie Groundbreaker Awards are facilitated by the Indie Game Developer Network, an organization focused on bringing new voices to the community and supporting those designers who have been traditionally underrepresented. It’s been a pleasure to see the IGDN grow into what it is today, and to be able to see the wide scope of projects represented in the Indie Groundbreaker Awards. The nominations we received this year are also for supplements of Bluebeard’s Bride

Book of Roomswas nominated for Best Art and Best Setting. The special thanks for this book goes to Mirco, Rebecca, Miguel, Tawny, Felipe, and Liz!

Additionally, Book of Lore was also nominated for Best Art! Big thanks to Jabari, Rebecca, Tawny, and Miguel here!

We’re lucky to have had so many amazing people working on these products– some of whom were nominated for IGAs for other products as well.

Roll20 Is Ready!

Bluebeard’s Bride is now up on Roll20! The sheets are free to use and Jason did an amazing job creating the interface for everyone to use.

To play: log in to your account, create a new game, select Bluebeard’s Bride from the list, and you are ready to go!

Thank you all for your support! The Tarot Booklet is at layout and the Vacant Hotel is at editing! Until next time, I hope you all continue to have a hauntingly good time playing the game.

The Slipcase and Prints are here!

The art prints and slipcase have arrived! Yay! We are back with an update on where we are with a few final pieces—Roll20, the tarot booklet, and the vacant hotel—and how to get your Bluebeard’s Bride art prints and slipcase if you ordered them.

Art Prints Have Been Sent!

The hauntingly beautiful art prints should be in your possession!  Our shipping manager, Derrick, has been working to get everyone their art prints this past month.

How Can I Get Prints or a Slipcase?

If you would like to order a physical copy of either the prints or the slipcases (and didn’t pledge for one during the Kickstarter), stay tuned for more information. We will see about making some of these goodies available to the public in the future!

Final Pieces Falling Into Place

Now that the prints and slipcase are done, we’re almost finished with this project. The following last bits are coming along nicely:

  •  Roll20 Integration - We’ve finished playtesting the Roll20 integration, and we’re working with their staff to get it implemented through their system. Look for it soon!
  •  Tarot Booklet - The text for the tarot booklet is done, so we’re working on the layout. We expect to see this finished in the next month or so, along with Roll20.
  •  Vacant Hotel - The writing for Vacant Hotel is complete! We still need to finish editing and laying out the piece, so this one may take a bit longer to finish. Stay tuned!

Thank you all for joining us on this journey. Your patience and support means a lot!

Book of Mirrors PDF is here!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 24, 2019 at 12:01:24 AM

The final PDF for the Book of Mirrors and play materials have arrived. We’ve already pushed out codes via Backerkit, so backers who backed at the Mirror Room level or above, have something new in their downloads section on Backerkit: a code for the final PDF on DriveThruRPG at no cost!

(If you’ve lost the link to Backerkit, follow this one here: https://bluebeards-bride.backerkit.com/

This is just a quick update as the physical copies of the Book of Mirrors should be in your hands or on the way!

Also, the Book of Mirrors will be going live for non-backers January 24th on DriveThruRPG, so we'd appreciate it if you'd take a moment to leave a review. Reviews really help us, and we value being able to see your thoughts on our creations.

Thank you all so much for your continued support! We love hearing your stories from around the table, so please continue to share them with us!

The Book of Mirrors, Tarot of Servants, and Deck of Objects are here in print!
over 5 years ago – Tue, Dec 11, 2018 at 10:43:23 PM

Your rough fingernails snag and catch as they drag across the doll’s tiny silk dress. Her porcelain eyes unyielding as they stare back, challenging you to brush your fingers through her hair that way as well, but you dare not….

Your attention is ripped away by the feeling that someone is watching you. Their eyes burning into the back of your neck, sending a shiver down your spine as they drink in every detail of your dress, skin, hair.

But you dare not look….

As you clench your eyes shut and the trickling sound of a music box starting up begins to tickle your ears. The sweet melody fills the room making your head spin. Your ears strain to hear beneath the music…. is that the sound of footsteps behind you?

But you dare not listen….

Clasping your hands over your ears to muffle the sound you are stricken deaf. You slowly lift your palms, but no sound comes. You swallow the lump of fear growing in your throat and bravely open your eyes. Nothing but endless darkness.

Rough fingernails snag and catch as they drag across the thin sleeve of silk at your shoulder.

Do you dare to cry out?

Getting Your Copy of the Book of Mirrors, Tarot of Servants, and Deck of Objects

Buying a Copy

If you would like to order a physical copy and didn’t pledge for one during the Kickstarter, they’ll be available to the public soon!

We want to make sure everybody who has pre-ordered gets them first, but the Book of Mirrors will be available for pre-order in late January 2019 in our store page before it is released in stores in March 2019. After that look out for the Decks going on sale in February!

The End Is Near….

Thanks so much for your patience and continued support. With the Book of Mirrors, Tarot of Servants, and Deck of Objects on their way to you, the library of Bluebeard’s Bride is almost complete. Still to come, we have the slipcase and prints (along with a few digital prizes for Roll20 and the Tarot deck). These are coming along nicely and will have them shipped early next year to complete your rewards!

Most of the Magpie office will be closed for the holidays on December 15th. We’ll return on January 7th, but in the meantime the office will be closed for the holidays. Please email [email protected] if you need anything while we're gone, and some of our staff will get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks for a wonderful year! Until we return, please enjoy the holiday season with Bluebeard’s Bride and share the beautiful horror with your friends and family.

The Book of Mirrors is at the printer!
over 5 years ago – Fri, Oct 05, 2018 at 08:12:55 PM

The cold water of this flooded basement stains your thinly veiled shins, but your eyes are drawn upward. A painting of Bluebeard’s last wife still hangs in memorial above the fireplace mantle.

Elegant and flawless. She’s nothing like you. And yet... there is something oddly attainable about that stunning smile, that silky hair, those perfect breasts. Surely, doctors had as prominent a role to play in this breathtaking portrait as the painter’s brush.

The smell of mold and rotting wood now fills your nostrils as you find yourself approaching the fireplace to take a closer look at the woman pinned to the stone wall. Undeniable beauty that would make any man’s heart ache with desire. Gingerly, you reach out to stroke the paint and get closer to her. The chimney shudders at your touch and a gasp of cold air expels itself from the drown fireplace. A moment of silence… followed by a hiss.

Glancing around the dimly lit basement study you assure yourself that you are indeed alone, but the low hissing still persists from within the chimney. Kneeling down into the murky water you crawl towards the sound, on hands and knees, into the dark maw of the fireplace.

Staring up the stack, you let your eyes adjust and fix on a pale spot. The sky perhaps? No. A face. A pale, blank, face framed in wet hair. And although the face is featureless, no nose, no eyes, no eyebrows, no lips, no mouth, you can feel it staring back.

As you meet its gaze the hissing stops and it begins to descend the chimney, bringing into view the limbs of a pale, emaciated woman. Slowly, you retreat. Shutting your eyes tightly, you pull your body out and fall backward onto your rear with a light slush of water.

Petrified with fear, all you can do is watch as she slowly comes back into view. Her hair dips into the standing water. Her cracked and broken nails lead her groping hands to the edge of the mantle. Her knuckles whiten and finally, that face… her faceless face, comes back into view.

You open your mouth to cry out for help, but only a hiss—her hiss—escapes your lips.
