Books Sheathed in Beauty
over 7 years ago – Sun, Nov 20, 2016 at 06:51:33 PM

There it is—another stretch goal hit, another door opened! And now, we’ve got two new reward tiers to unveil!

The Books Sheathed in Beauty

There it is—the slipcase for all four books is unlocked. The slipcase will be carefully designed to fit in with the aesthetic and style of the books, to bind them together in one awesome looking collection, and of course to keep them safe and protected on your shelf. We’ll be finalizing those designs as we continue in the process—we want to make sure the case looks great with all the books—but we’re excited to make something you’re going to love on your shelf!

And remember, every person who gets all four books gets the slipcase at no additional cost! Which brings us to the new reward ties—the Archives, for someone who wants all the books and the slipcase, but without any additional materials; and the Final Room, for someone who wants all the books and all extra materials.

The Archives - $140 Reward Tier

Back at this level, and you get a beautiful 8” x 8” hardbound copy of Bluebeard’s Bride, an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Rooms, an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Mirrors, an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Lore, a slipcase to hold all the books, and PDF digital download copies of the books and all other stretch goals funded during this campaign.

The Final Room - $210 Reward Tier

Back at this level and you get a hardcover version of the Bluebeard’s Bride core book; an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Rooms; an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Mirrors; an 8” x 8” hardcover copy of the Book of Lore; a slipcase to hold all the books; a set of 8 different tokens to track loyalty or disloyalty; a special silk sheet for the Bride to track her earned tokens; a full set of customized Bluebeard’s Bride dice; the Deck of Objects; the Servant Tarot; a beautiful ring to use during play as a tracker for which Sister is currently foremost in the Bride; and PDF digital download copies of the books on DrivethruRPG, and any other PDF stretch goals funded during this campaign.

And now, time for a new stretch goal:

Stretch Goal #23: Metallic Ink at $125,000

We will add metallic ink as an accent to the pages for both the core book and the Limited Edition book. Metallic accents will echo the lush feel of the Bride’s journey. This ink is in addition to the color already featured in the gorgeous illustrations, and will make this book something you’ll want to pour over at leisure.

The Final Rooms of the Manor

Here we are, headed toward the final hours of the Bluebeard’s Bride Kickstarter. We’ve already come so, so far thanks to all of you and your tremendous outpouring of support, and we’re excited to get to work on every single piece of awesome that you’ve unlocked! Thank you, forever and always, for your support.

Now, with your help, let’s bring it all home with an incredible finish! Please, in these last few days, make sure you share out the Bluebeard’s Bride Kickstarter—talk about it, tweet about it, book face about it, whatever you can do to get the word out—and keep being the amazing backers we’ve seen the whole way through!

A Collection Complete
over 7 years ago – Sun, Nov 20, 2016 at 06:47:03 PM

Wow… just wow. Thanks to all of your support we have passed $100,000.

With that, let me get down to business here and introduce our fourth and final book!

Bluebeard’s Library Grows at $100,000

A new bride and her ugly husband arrive at his house. He grants her the run of the place—she may enter all rooms, save one. In her husband's house, the bride finds precious jewels, lovely clothes, and luxury beyond her dreams, but the shadow of that one rooms darkens all, until she can no longer see the beauty for her curiosity. Finally, the bride can resist the pull no longer, and opens that final door. And for doing so, she is killed.

It’s a story of surprising simplicity and depth. Of focus and expanse. And now we will tell it with our own tweaks, with art, and with beauty.

We will produce a standalone book containing the original fairy tale that inspired the game. The book will have the same hardcover, 8” x 8” form factor as the other books, and will include original illustrations to complement our dark text. In addition, the story will come with variable endings, letting you choose your own, just like in the core game. Everyone who backs at least $20 will get a PDF of our fairy tale book; you can add on a hardback copy for $30 to any pledge. Domestic shipping is free, and international shipping is $7.

Don’t forget our next amazing stretch goal—aimed at $110,000.

The Books Encased at $110,000

If we reach $110,000, we’ll unlock a slipcase for all 4 books and open up a two new reward tiers!

The slipcase will be customized to fit the style of the other books. It will include enough space to comfortably hold all the books, including the core book, the Book of Mirrors, the Book of Rooms, and the Book of Lore.

Here’s the next awesome part—if we reach this stretch goal, everyone who gets all 4 books gets a slipcase, free! That means that if we reach $110,000, then for a total of $140, you can get all four hardcover books and a slipcase!

The two tiers will be a level with all four books in a slipcase and a level with all four books in a slipcase with all of the play materials.

Approaching the Final Room

We’re so excited to be able to offer all of this amazing content. Thank you all for making this line a reality. Let’s keep up the hype for these final days and bring in new backers during these final days of the kickstarter. Spread the beautiful horror to your loved ones while you still can. <3

Gilding the Lily

This is it! We’re in our final week, and closing in on our final stretch goals. Let’s see how awesome we can make Bluebeard’s Bride together!

First up, we want to remind you that the next stretch goal is still the Book of Lore, unlocked at $100,000. We’re closing in on that even as we speak, and we’ve got a lot of hope we’re going to hit it sooner than later!

Next, we’re going to reveal another stretch goal—one aimed at $110,000.

The Books Encased at $110,000

We’ve always had it in our heads that Bluebeard’s Bride was about making the most beautiful, gorgeous books imaginable. Premium paper, amazing art, a form factor that put the books in a category all their own, and more. Every single piece we’ve added to Bluebeard’s Bride has been designed with this in mind. We just weren’t sure if we’d ever succeed enough to actually reach these goals.

At the beginning of the close to our campaign we’re so proud and grateful to say that we’re finally here, hitting our most exciting goals for making the books just amazing.

If we reach $110,000, we’ll unlock a slipcase for all 4 books!

The slipcase will be customized to fit the style of the other books. It will include enough space to comfortably hold all four books: the core book, the Book of Mirrors, the Book of Rooms, and the Book of Lore.

Here’s the next awesome part—if we reach this stretch goal, everyone who gets all 4 books gets a slipcase, free! That means that if we reach $110,000, then for a total of $140, you can get all four hardcover books and a slipcase!

We want to repeat that, just to make sure you catch it:

If we reach $110,000, everyone who orders all 4 books also gets the slipcase at no additional cost!

We’re so excited to be able to offer the slipcase goal, and to be able to make it available for everyone who gets the full Bluebeard’s Bride library!

The Last Days in the Manor

As we approach the end of Bluebeard’s Bride, we just want to reiterate how absolutely amazed we are with all of your support.

Just as a quick run-through, here’s everything we’ve unlocked so far:

  • The core book itself
  • The Deck of Objects, with a total of 55 cards
  • The Tarot of Servants, with a total of 78 cards
  • The Book of Rooms, with 45 total rooms and approximately 90 pages
  • Digital resources for Bluebeard’s Bride (including Roll20 tools)
  • Art prints available as add-ons
  • The Book of Mirrors, with 5 different playsets and approximately 90 pages

...And we’re coming up on the Book of Lore and the slipcase!

Thank you all, so much, for bringing us so far, and letting us do so many awesome things. We are so excited to flesh out all of these pieces, and we’re excited to see how much further we can come in these final days!

Please, share out about Bluebeard’s Bride—let everybody know we’re in the final stretch—and keep being awesome!

Cells and Lore
over 7 years ago – Tue, Nov 15, 2016 at 08:19:20 PM

We have about one week left, and we’ve just unlocked another stretch goal—our twenty-second. Incredible. Beyond belief. You’re all amazing.

Thank you all for your support, for helping us to make our ideas a reality, and for making a tough time brighter. You’re all awesome!

First up—a stretch goal unlocked!

The Cells Open at $87,500

You drove up with all the hope in the world. You’ve always wanted to help people, and this may not have been what you expected...but it’s where you found yourself, and you’re determined to do the most good. To fix all these broken people. Make them better.

But then you step into the cold concrete hallways. The walls of cinderblocks lit up with soulless light. The bars, dusted with rust.

The inmates. Prisoners. People. Bruised faces, broken jaws, patches of bald pate amid unkempt, bedraggled strands. Sores pocking sunken flesh. Hollow stares and missing teeth.

They’ve been beaten and ruined and broken, and this place is soaked in their misery. You feel it with every step you take. You hear it echoing in the empty air.

There are always stories, but that’s what you’d always thought they were—stories. Just stories. Everyone tells stories, exaggerates the truth. And this place, it’s always had a good reputation. Shockingly low recidivism rates. The inmates released from here, by all accounts, they were fixed. Became contributing members of society.

But as you peer back into the dark eyes staring at you right now, those stories fill in with terrifying color. They become real, webbing up your thoughts in a morass of tragedy. For any inmate to be “fixed,” how much must they first be broken? And for every one who is released, how many never leave this place?

You think of the massive open yards you saw on your drive up. You find yourself wondering how many bodies the dirt could hold.

A guard approaches, smiles at you too warmly for this place. A searing flame in the cold.

He tells you the Warden wants to speak to you, and he holds out a calloused hand with cuts on the knuckles.

What else can you do?

You take it.

Correctional Facility is the sixth playset for Bluebeard’s Bride. Because we’ve reached this stretch goal, we’ll write the whole thing up—approximately 20 pages of tools, tweaks, and tone, to take your game of Bluebeard’s Bride into this alternate setting. Correctional Facility is all about the horror of a woman, the Assistant Warden, finding the true depths of institutional depravity, the nightmarish ways that the desire to “fix” the undesirables can create lasting anguish for years to come. The playset will include all the necessary information to adjust Bluebeard’s Bride for those changes, including a switch to one of the Sisters to suit the new setting.

Correctional Facility will be released as a PDF to all backers of $20 or higher, and will be included in the Book of Mirrors. It is also our final playset to be added to the Book of Mirrors.

And now, a super exciting stretch goal, for $100,000!

Stretch Goal #21 - $100,000 - The Book of Lore

A new wife and her ugly husband go to his house. He grants her the run of the place—she may enter all rooms, save a single one. In that place, she finds horror, until she cannot resist, and opens up that final door. And for doing so, she is killed.

It’s a story of surprising simplicity and depth. Of focus and expanse. And now we will tell it with our own tweaks, with art, and with beauty.

If we reach this stretch goal, then we will produce a standalone book containing the original fairy tale that inspired the game.

This will be the final book we produce for this Bluebeard’s Bride Kickstarter.

Bluebeard’s Library Grows

We always had hoped that we’d get to a point when we could do a deluxe, gorgeous version of the story, but we were completely unsure we’d ever get close to here. Yet here we are, not even in our final week yet, and it’s within sight! And it’s all thanks to all of you being so awesome all the time.

This Kickstarter has been an amazing ride so far, and we’re grateful for every single step you’ve taken us. Thank you all so much, and stick with us for these last days—it’s going to be awesome!

Sharing the Tale
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 07, 2016 at 01:26:23 AM

Another stretch goal down, another round of our backers being just awesome.

The Family Tree Charted at $80,000

You’re not a bad guy. Really, you’re not. You’d swear it up and down. You’ve never hurt anyone, and you never would. Your mom raised you right, all by her lonesome. Taught you to be good.

But you have to wonder, now. You question. You fear.

Because she finally told you who your father was. She told you about his manor, and about the things that happened there. The terrible things. The nightmares. The monsters made of blood-stained strands of gossamer and lurching sacks of flowing flesh.

And Bluebeard, his presence, his cruelty, his lustful hunger, pervading over all of it. His final room locked away behind a silver door knob, and the dark truth—all of the pain and misery and death he caused—the horror your mother couldn’t bring herself to see.

All attached to you. All a part of your legacy.

Because he’s dying now. She told you about the lawyers who came by. How he knew you and she were out here the whole time, and did nothing even after she ran from him—apparently content only to watch you and your mother from afar. And now, as he approaches his death, he has named you his official heir. His agents promised you his whole estate, all the money and the manor and everything.

All you have to do is come back to him and accept his terms. Live in his manor. Take up his name. His mantle. His family crest.

You’re not a bad person. You really aren’t.

But you have to know. So you’re here. Standing on the threshold, hand outstretched to the knocker. About to enter the very same place that your mother did so long ago. Terrified to find what’s on the other side...and somehow...maybe...excited.

Bluebeard’s Legacy is the fifth playset for Bluebeard’s Bride. Because we’ve reached this stretch goal, we’ll write the whole thing up—approximately 20 pages of tools, tweaks, and tone, to take your game of Bluebeard’s Bride into this alternate setting. Bluebeard’s Legacy is all about the horror of a young man, the Son, coming into Bluebeard’s manor to relive his mother’s horror and find out if he is chained to his father’s legacy. The playset will include all the necessary information to adjust Bluebeard’s Bride for those changes, including a switch to one of the Sisters to suit the new setting

Bluebeard’s Legacy will be released as a PDF to all backers of $20 or higher, and will be included in the Book of Mirrors.

We will update everyone with more stretch goals when we get back from the Metatopia gaming convention!

Thank you!

We say it in every update, and we mean it every time. Thank you all, so so much, for your continued support and interest! Please keep letting people know about Bluebeard’s Bride, and let’s see what other amazing things we can unlock!
